The Fenland Keswick Convention - May 2008 |
The Fenland Keswick Convention
As most of you might know, David went to Spain for two weeks and he gave me that blessing of looking after the shop, with the help of Sue and Jenny whilst he was away. He also planned that the bookshop itself was to attend a conference on the Bank Holiday (the 26th May). This was the first time that the shop had been packed away and taken to another venue for the day; David has only taken pieces to spiritualist fairs in the past, and he’s not done anything on this scale before -and still hasn’t!

The Team
We knew the venue – the Swan Street Baptist Church, we knew what we had to take – everything! We also had a large group of helpers with us and on the Sunday we had to pack down. We did this after the shop had shut on the Sunday at about 2:15- Zoe, Don, Charlotte, Gemma ,Dale, Sue, Jenny and myself all started to pack everything down, I had to make two trips to Sainsbury’s to “borrow” produce trays and empty banana boxes. We then got it all packed down and boxed up.
 Empty Bookshop
On the Monday morning I had to be at the shop to let Maria pack down the jewellery and to do some final checks that we’d got everything. Sue and Don turned up with the mini bus, we got it loaded and off we went! We were there at 10:15 to be let in and allowed to set up ;Dale and I had countless problems with the chip and pin machine, we then got it sorted just before the first customer came in and then we found that several items of stock weren’t on the till- what joy!.

When we were at the conference while the seminars were on, we had a great time of fellowship with one another, we ate loads and all the helpers on the day were drowned in tea and coffee! I asked for a glass of juice and they showed me where everything was in the kitchen and told me to help myself! When they were out of the seminars we worked as a team like Trojans and we had great sales! We put all the stock back in boxes and placed it in the bookshop about 9:15pm and then went for McDonald’s; it was a long and hard day.

Darren
Sue, Dale and I eventually got the shop back to some sort of normality on Wednesday but without God I don’t think we could have undertaken this task. Before we did anything we prayed in a team or in small groups or on our own.

Sue
All in all it was a great day and we are booked for next year (and David is not taking it as a holiday!)

What did we do for most of the day? Eat and Sell!
