After all the build up to Christmas, everything always seems to go "flat". But, just 6 days after the main event - the church was alive with fun, quizzes, music, dancing & worship, at the New Year celebration.
To kick off there were brilliant performances from the dance troupe and some lovely singing items from Jenny and Jo Berry. Then we were tested on our general and Biblical knowledge with various quizzes set by Jenny, Sandra & Paul. The numbers quiz was especially hilarious (and you know what I mean, if you were there). The teams were fiercely competitive and not always in a Christian way, I felt. However, there were prizes of bags of sweeties involved and I'm afraid the sin of gluttony reared it's ugly head!
Some other great items included a lively dance rendition of jingle bell rock from the youth, who gave a few members of the audience a shock when they were dragged onto the stage to join in. This was followed by some excellent guitar playing from Josh and Bob Earl. Far out, man!
Then came a much needed break and we all tucked in to a brilliant buffet. The caterers - all two of them, did really well. Whilst we wolfed down our deserts, the entertainment picked up once again.
Mark, Mick and Chas treated us all to some pop classics. (They're old enough to remember the 60's). This was followed by a one-off reunion appearance by ABBA! (who may just have resembled 4 members of the congregation!) following on from Waterloo, Isak's brilliant beat-boxing act had some of the audience open-mouthed in amazement!
Before the old year was out, everyone came together for a time of worship and personal testimonies of what God had done in their lives over the past year. After drinking a 'toast' to the new year, we could all look back on a most enjoyable evening of fun together as a family. God's family.
